Research Councils UK and the Digital Catapult Centre, under the RCUK digital economy theme, invite applications for their researcher in residence programme. This enables researchers at any career stage to spend time at the Digital Catapult Centre or a relevant partner organisation to undertake a project that will generate impact for the digital economy in the broadest sense. Projects can either be applied or strategic in nature:
•applied projects – will generally be user-centred and focused on impact generation in the short to medium term, and proposals should be relevant to one or more of the current Digital Catapult focus areas;
•strategic projects – will help shape current Catapult projects, and drive the creation of new activities or projects relevant to the Catapult’s overall mission. Proposals that highlight potential new directions, new users and novel means of impact generation are encouraged, and the focus should be impact generation in the broadest sense.
Applicants must be academics who have a strong track record in research and impact generation related to digital economy. Applicants must have submitted their PhD by the closing date, with no upper limit in terms of years of submission. All applicants must have a contract of employment at a UK university.
Grants, worth up to £25,000 each, are available to cover expenses such as salary costs, equipment and resources, caring responsibilities such as childcare costs, and travel and accommodation, in addition to overheads if the university will not waive these. There is no requirement in terms of duration of the residency itself, but applicants should ensure their projects are achievable within the proposed timeframe.
